Rugby Union

Following several training sessions, the Terriers were raring to go in their first fixture of the tour against Alberta U19 at Calgary rugby club, and the squad were determined to start with a victory. The match kicked off with temperatures in the mid-30s and water breaks were agreed as a necessity.

Early Terriers pressure came to nothing due to two excellent try-saving tackles in the left corner but with secure possession the Terriers continued to camp in the opposition half. The deadlock was broken after 9 minutes when Danny Hart held off desperate Alberta tackles to score under the posts. Jon West added the conversion.

Today was all about preparing the squad as well as possible for tomorrow's opening fixture against Alberta U19s.

After an interesting breakfast that saw a few amusing stories of the previous night come to light, the tour party made their way to Banff Rugby Club for training. Despite numerous sessions prior to departure this was the first time the squad were all together and able to enjoy a full run.

After being put through their paces for a good couple hours in demanding heat it was time to return to the hotel for showers, lunch and then a free afternoon. Whilst some lazed by the pool working on their tans others took the opportunity to explore Banff, a small town in the heart of the Rockies surrounded by spectacular mountain peaks, famous for its winter skiing and summer walks.
